Our company eliminates a wide range of pests, and ant control is one of our specialties. We use a three-pronged approach of bait, gels and liquid treatments to attract and eliminate this common household nuisance.

Ants in Long Island

There are three major species of ant on Long Island. Carpenter ants usually nest inside walls and above ceilings. Their favorite food is wood, and they leave behind the tracks to show it. Pavement ants, on the other hand, can be identified by the little piles of earth they leave behind. This variety likes to nest near a heat source or in a home’s foundation and loves to eat all sorts of human food. The third type, the odorous house ant, is relatively new to Long Island. These also prefer to nest in warm locations, and their food of choice is sugary and sweet.

Where Do They Come From?

The ordinary residential lot can easily contain tens of thousands of ants, but they’re not often noticed by humans until the food shows up. Annoyed as you may be when they invade your outdoor barbecue, it’s nothing compared to how you’ll feel once they’ve come through your door.

Why Do They Come In?

Ants in Coram, Mastic, and Riverhead will come in when food is left out. Resourceful and intelligent, they have developed strategies ideal for their survival. Some live only to reproduce. Most ants, though, are wingless workers, females who’ve been tasked with a double job. When not home keeping the nest fires burning, they’re out on the hunt for food. Their favorite places to find it tend to include protection from the elements, and the chemical trails they leave behind tell the others to come and get it.

How Do I Keep Them Away From My Door?

Always clean up crumbs and wipe away spills as soon as they occur. When saving leftovers, make sure your storage containers are fitted with airtight lids. Be certain that all empty containers are thoroughly rinsed before they hit the garbage or recycle bin.
